Security built for a purpose
Practical help for small IT teams
Purposeful Security is a free educational resource for people responsible for security alongside the rest of their IT work. Our focus is a useful starting point for Microsoft 365 and Windows environments: understand a gap, choose an action, and check whether it worked.
You can use the checkup and guides without an account or sharing your organization’s answers. This site does not offer consulting engagements, tenant administration, incident response services, or certification.
How the guidance is prepared
- Guides link to primary sources such as vendor documentation, NIST, and CISA. Source versions and content review dates are provided where applicable.
- Implementation guidance includes prerequisites, licensing considerations, rollout cautions, and ways to verify results. Adapt it to your systems and change procedures.
- Framework alignments are selected editorial interpretations, not official crosswalks or a complete assessment of a framework.
- AI tools assist with drafting and software development. Linked sources and editorial review matter; AI output alone is not evidence that a recommendation is correct.
- Examples are labeled as fictional. A published guide or a passing software test does not establish that its steps have been tested in your environment.
What the checkup can tell you
The checkup organizes self-reported answers into actions and things to verify. “In place” is your report, not independent confirmation. It produces no security score and cannot establish that an organization is secure or compliant.
